After appearing in The Metropolitan Opera’s The Merry Widow earlier this year, The King and I Tony winner Kelli O’Hara will return to her classical roots with former The Light in the Piazza co-star Victoria Clark in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, as well as a companion piece by Michael John LaChiusa.The concert presentation, conducted by Ted Sperling, is part of the new MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale) season, which will highlight English operas, operettas and new works. Performances will run on April 28 and 29, 2016 at New York City Center.The season kicks off on October 15 and 16 with The Pirates of Penzance; or, The Slave of Duty by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. The comic opera premiered on Broadway in 1879. The cast will include soprano Deborah Voigt and Broadway alums Betsy Wolfe and Montego Glover. Sperling will conduct the Orchestra of St. Luke’s for the concerts at New York City Center.The season will also include a workshop presentation of Justine Chen and David Simpatico’s The Life and Death(s) of Alan Turing on October 17, and two performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. Statehouse—State Rep. Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) pairs her sneakers with her suit to help kick off February as National Cancer Prevention Month on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Statehouse. The Indiana House of Representatives participated in the Suits and Sneakers Challenge, an annual event hosted by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, to help raise awareness. The Suits and Sneakers event aims to shed light on ways of reducing cancer, like exercising, eating healthy and following the American Cancer Society’s guidelines for recommended cancer screenings.
