Benson, Caballero impress as Bruins win

first_imgThe JCC of Bayonne Jr. Division Floor Hockey program got underway as the Bruins and Blackhawks faced off to open the 2017 season. Battling for seven scoreless minutes, the Bruins finally broke the ice as Edward Denne zipped in a goal off an assist by Christian Benson. Staying on the attack, the Bruins made it 2-0 on a Christian Benson slap shot while Anthony Baez notched the assist. As their offense chugged along, the Bruins’ defense found a future star at net with Nathan Caballero making his rookie debut by mustering a flawless effort. Desperately trying to kick start their offense, the Blackhawks started to unleash blasts from every point with David Matos, Toni Rivada, and Aviv Talmor zeroing in. Inspite of the barrage, the Bruins’ 2-0 advantage held up as the game entered its final 10 minutes. Stifled by Caballero’s goal tending and Dexter Hudspeth’s zone clearing the Blackhawks gave it one last push by putting Mariam Rasslan and Sebastian Echeverry on the front line in hopes of getting on the board. Catching the Blackhawks defense off guard, the Bruins’ Christian Benson cashed in with his second net rocker to secure the Bruins 3-0 victory.last_img
