Army Captures FARC Leader

first_img The Colombian Military Forces managed to capture the leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia’s (FARC) 1st Company, Mobile Column, Daniel Aldana , an Army spokesman reported on May 2. The detainee who is identified as alias “La Bruja” (The Witch), was the FARC contact in the areas of Mogui, Montañitas, Mataplano, La Galleta and Tumaco’s urban center, in addition to being aka “Rambo’s” –the Daniel Aldana Mobile Column’s leader– trusted man. The operation was carried out in the municipality of Tumaco, Nariño, where soldiers from the 32nd Mobile Brigade obtained the location of the narco-terrorist, who was finally captured after several months of intelligence work. Nicholls’ Hebert, UCA’s Johnson Capture Softball Player of the Week Honors

first_imgFRISCO, Texas – Nicholls’ Kennedy Hebert and Central Arkansas’ Jordan Johnson are the Southland Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. The pair and their squads competed in The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla., over the weekend.Hebert’s strong week at the plate led the Colonels to a trio of wins last week, including a 4-2 victory over Purdue Friday afternoon. The sophomore stamped 17 plate appearances with three RBI, two homers and eight hits for a .471 batting average and her first Southland weekly accolade. Nicholls is back in action Tuesday evening with a 6 p.m. bout at home against Southern.Johnson appeared in three games and 11.1 innings for the Bears (7-4), claiming a 2-0 record on the week and allowing just one run over the three-game stretch. The sophomore claimed a 0.62 earned-run average and rang up a complete-game shutout victory over Middle Tennessee, her first of the season. The award marks the first of her career for Johnson. Central Arkansas hits the diamond again this Friday at 4:15 p.m. against Jackson State to kick off the Michelle Short Memorial Classic in Conway, Ark.Softball Hitter of the Week – Kennedy Hebert, Nicholls – So. – OF – Morgan City, La.Hebert continued her red-hot start to the season by hitting .471 with two homers and three RBIs in the Colonels’ six games last week. The sophomore had three two-hit games, highlighted by a double and two-run homer in the 4-2 win over Purdue Friday afternoon. She also hit a home run in the 4-3 victory over Mercer Sunday afternoon to go along with an infield single in the bottom of the seventh that led to a throwing error and a walkoff victory for the Colonels.
